I travelled to Cuba in November 2014 with my partner. It was a first time for both of us which was very exciting but also a little daunting. Initially, we had not really known much about what Cuba had to offer or about the different options for accommodation, transport, excursions, costs etc. Luckily for us, a friend of mine passed on the details for Vamos Cuba and highly recommended their services.
I contacted Vamos Cuba and received a timely and informative response. Veronika was great! We were able to give her an idea of what we wanted to fit into our two week experience in Cuba and she was able to offer advice and recommendations about how best to meet these needs. She then came back with a very reasonable quote and that was it!
Our two weeks were spent in a few different places. We spent the first few days in Havana which did not disappoint! It looked just like we had expected it to with it’s amazing architecture, fabulous vintage cars and extremely friendly and vibrant people.
On our first morning, we had a half day induction with Veronika which I would definitely recommend. For first timers, Havana can be quite confusing and it certainly helps to have somebody with knowledge (and Spanish!!!) to help you find your feet. Veronika was also able to advise us on which taxi’s to use, where to change money, how much we were paying for things and most importantly……where to buy our Cigars J We had a great first day with Veronika which was a fabulous start to our holiday. Unfortunately, we have friends who did not have the luxury of an induction and their experience of Havana was not quite as successful.
Our next stop was Vinales. A beautiful little town where we stayed in an amazing Casa with fantastic hosts. We were really happy with all of the accommodation Veronika arranged for us but this one was my personal favourite……They made us feel so welcome and really spoiled us with fabulous food and plenty of cocktails!!!
We opted to hire a car to get us around Cuba. Personally, we were very happy with the freedom and adventures this gave us. However, it is not the cheapest option and Cuban roads are not for the faint hearted. However, Veronika did advise us on a range of different options to get from place to place which was very helpful. We certainly wont forget our driving experience in Cuba J
Trinidad was next which was actually somewhere we had not initially thought of travelling to. However, Veronika advised us that this would be a good idea and she was right! Trinidad gave us a real taste of Cuban life……especially Cuban night life! We went to some fantastic bars and restaurants whilst we were there…..my highlight being La Cueva! This is an actual cave transformed in to a night club….definitely a first for me and something I would certainly recommend. Thanks to Veronika for making sure we saw the beautiful Trinidad during our time in Cuba.
The second half of our trip was something we arranged independently. We moved up to Varadero for a few days of luxury in an all inclusive hotel. For us….this was lovely and a great way to relax at the end of our holiday. However, Varadero is a very touristy part of Cuba and therefore, we were very happy to have seen some of “the real Cuba” in our first week.
Overall an amazing holiday and we owe a massive Thanks to Vamos Cuba for making it perfect for us. I would highly recommend Vamos Cuba and hope to work with Veronika again when we make our second trip J
