Just back from a wonderful three weeks in Cuba, organised by Veronika at Vamos Cuba. Her expert knowledge of the country, experience of Cuban life and patient advice helped us plan an unforgettable trip.
Yaremi, our host in Havana, is delightful. She gave us a unique insight into the city; history, culture, great restaurants… when our daughter arrived from South America she hung out with us, took us to some fascinating places, organising all our needs in Havana perfectly. Really happy memories!
Out of Havana we were driven by Maxy in his beloved ’52 Plymouth Cranbrook. He’s a fine young man with a great sense of humour, and like Yaremi, eager that we have a wonderful time. He may be one of the safest drivers we’ve ever come across. For a week we travelled to the Zapata Peninsula; Veronika and Maxy had organised bird-watching trips with conservation experts; Cienfuegos, Trinidad and Vinales. We stayed in casa particulars and experienced some amazing hospitality and comfort. The extensive breakfasts usually meant we didn’t need lunch. Some of the hosts offered an option of dinner as an alternative to restaurants, and these were all excellent.
We travelled independently for a short time at the end of the trip using the Viazul bus network. The ticketing system runs efficiently and the buses leave bang on time. Yaremi still kept track of where we were and if we needed anything she was only a txt away, and ensured that our driver in Havana, the wonderful Hugo, was always there to pick us up.
Cuba is a unique country; it has a constant salsa soundtrack, it is loud and frenetic, it has a rich history and culture, the people are amazing; warm and friendly. It is a safe place to travel, and there is so much more to it than you could ever imagine.
We’ve travelled all over the world and I would say that Vamos Cuba gave us the very best experience that we’ve ever had with a travel company. Thank you Veronika, Yaremi, Maxy and Hugo!
